Hello,

Here is a Google-form about timing of first two-sessions.

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1IP6P4HH2JCGsEEjjHopwj4m6JGilZ8bgBA84DMyVyrs/viewform

We are hoping to conduct two sessions on weekends. First, introduction to programming where we'll discuss very basic concepts about programming such as what is a pointer/reference, passing by value/reference, recursion, object oriented programming etc; and data-structures. It will mostly be an interactive session where you can ask anything about programming (except which programming language is better, a small note to follow on this group).

For second session, which will be real hands-on, might last for more than two hours. I'll send a detailed note on how to prepare your computer for group-activity for both session soon on the group.

I am not available on Sat morning (Lab-meet). We need to find a person who can fill the Saturday morning slot. If any of you wants to conduct any of these sessions, please let me know. I'll pass on the material I've been preparing. That would help me find more time preparing tutorials, docs and code-snippets.

Dear All,

There will be two sessions: Saturday (starting 2pm) and Sunday (starting 2pm). I'll be taking the first season and Umesh Mohan will take the second session on Sunday.

The agenda of first session is "Introduction to programming through Python". If you have not done any programming (or used Python before), do come. After this session, you should be able to write small scripts on your own and have an idea what really goes behind the scene when you do programming. A document covering the basic ideas will be posted on the group no later than Friday afternoon.

You should bring your machine with you. I'll be using Spyder IDE (see the previous post). I'd request to use the same IDE on your system. Help me organize the document better by submitting this form. Write any questions came to you regarding Python or Programming.

Umesh will take a more intensive Python based session on Sunday which will hands-on. He'll write a separate email about it. There will be volunteers to help you out. Sunday will be guided by "talk is cheap, show me the code".

In case, you can not make this time, we'll organize the same workshop at the beginning of academic year. But this one is extremely important for us to test the waters and our own capabilities to organize activities.

Speaker's profile:

My programming related work is available at Github (http://github.com/dilawar). I mainly work in C++, Python and Haskell.

Two of my python programs are available on PyPi: twordpress (a commandline tool to download, post and edit Wordpress posts), and code-sniffer, a tool to check plagiarism in submitted assignments.

You can also find me on Web and Coding Club IIT Bombay.

Best,
     Dilawar

Both sessions will be held in Malgova. It has enough internet- and power-point. Bring you laptop and charger.

Best,
