You can manage to get Linux on your windows machine in at least two ways:

1. Install virtualbox and install linux in it.
2. Install cygwin.

The first option should be preferred if you have more than 2GB of RAM with a
decent processor. Second option can be utilized on slower systems.

1. Using virtualbox

https://www.virtualbox.org/

The basic idea is simple: you install virtualbox on windows and then install
Ubuntu (or any other Linux) in virtualbox. Virtualbox is like a computer with
linux in a computer with windows. You can also do the opposite: install
virutalbox on your linux machine and then install windows in it. This is the
easiest solution for having two operating systems on a machine.

The only problem with solution is that your RAM and processor is shared between
two OSes. Therefore making both of your OS run slower. THis is not such a big
issue with Linux since it consumes very little compared to Windows. But it can
make Windows really slow (especially if you have anti-virus installed).

Or you can just drop the windows altogether (unless you are into gaming).

2. Using CygWin

Cygwin are a collection of windows programs which mimics Linux. Actually, these
are linux program compiled on windows. Installation process is rather involved
and you can break the Cygwin installation often. You get a linux terminal and a
lots of programs are available. Inside cygwin, you'll feel like being in Linux.

This methods should be used on slow machines.

We can setup Linux on you machine during Wed/Fri sessions.
