Dear Cookie and Joy,
I would like to support electronic voting for the Pacifica Elections, because of the potential cost saving, but I need more information in order to do so.
As a long-time voting rights advocate, I am generally speaking a strong
supporter of paper ballots. One of the reasons for this is that the
results from electronic voting are generally easy to tamper with.
Is the electronic software verifiably transparent? Can you tell me what company has designed the voting software, and who I or my colleagues might contact to verify that the software does what it is supposed to do--count and allocate the votes properly? Also, can you please authorize me or my colleagues to view the software, so that we can verify the above. Hopefully this information is already publicly available, and I have just not been able to locate it. In which case I please direct me to the location at which this information can be found.
Obviously this is not just a personal concern, but also a concern for many, if not most, members of the Pacifica community.
By the way, as a separate matter, the bylaws of Pacifica do allow for
mailing third class, and that is another method of saving money, and I
hope that you are planning to send the ballots third class.
"Whenever notice to
Members is required under these Bylaws, notices shall be submitted, at the
Foundation's sole discretion, either personally, by first class, registered or
certified mail, by electronic mail or by
other means of written communication, charges, pre‑paid, and shall
be addressed to each Member..."
Thank you in advance for your anticipated prompt assistance in this matter
