Hi Sikander,

You have done the first right step by registering in this group. You will gets lots of advice. but remember what works for somebody else will not necessarily work for you. Keep following this group and you should get enough ideas.

if you done Project management in real life then I believe this will be relatively easy. You just have to get used to the terminologies and practice for the exams and you are through. tell your selves you can do it and prepare for the hard work and sacrifices that will come along. I got really inspired by reading experiences of people who had similar constraints as mine. I just continued studying, whatever I could and kept following this group for support.

In brief, my suggestion on studying and what worked for me, was the following

1) read Rita 7 th edition ( 6th edition will also do), along with the exercises
2) Did one full mock test, cleard it hence got lots of confidence.
3) read PMP guide
4) Did whatever questions I could get my hands on.
5) Read Rita
6) Did a few mock tests
7) Read PM guide
8) Did a few Mock tests

Just study and practice and you should be through.. Best of luck.

Hi Sikandar,

Welcome to group!
Tips for you;
- Fix up exam date and finish application process first - Because sometimes if audit requires, you need to add more time.
- It's up to you & your capability to digest project management concept - if you have worked in project industry, you will love reading PMBOK!
- Your dedicated and well planned study plan will help you to pass exam at first attempt! Do follow what you have planned!
- My opinion - First read PMBOK chapter and then read same chapter in RITA, like this continue to read both books completely!
- Reading PMBOK gives you preliminary familiarization of subject and immediate followed by RITA gives you understating of concepts more clearly!
- During second reading you can attend practice test of RITA book.
- At least two times reading of PMBOK and RITA is important....you can decide based on your out come of exam that which topics requires more repetition!
- Then you can give MOCK test..remember practice is the key factor to pass the exam...because time limit is constraint which may cause difficulty during exam...
- I suggest if you start achieving 75 - 80 % in MOCK exam, you are fit to pass exam undoubtedly!
- I emphasize do not break your journey till you get success because once you break it...there will be unexpected delay!
- Please read all OLD POST of this group..it is must!
- My LL for your reference as stated below...

All the Best and remember in the History...King Sikandar was famous for victory!!!

Thanks and Best Regards,
Pranav Sheth,
PMP® .

Hi

Greetings!

I am pleased to inform you that I have passed PMP exam on 28 Feb 2012.

Here it's my LL;

(1). I have attended workshop to get 35 contact hours (mandatory as per PMI) without doing followings;

-          Becoming PMI member,

-          And w/o pre-studying PMBOK + reference guide book (I selected RITA’s book).

LL- It is better to first become member of PMI. (which I didn’t follow but I suggest that if you are 100% sure to go for PMP then and then only start preparing otherwise re-plan as per your wish). It’s better to check PMI website thoroughly after you become PMI member. Spare some time on it. Generally many candidates miss this.

LL – It is better to read PMBOK and selected reference guide (and make notes of difficulties during first reading) before attending 35 hours contact workshop, because it is more advisable.

I strongly recommended this to all aspirant of PMP.

Surely it will make workshop or training session more interactive and interesting.

You will able to solve doubts or problems during session with faculty.

(2). I did not keep regular touch with faculty and R.E.P. after workshop.

LL - That If I would have in touch with my R.E.P. and faculty (though I had their contacts but forgot), it would have helped me lot to solve some problems during preparation. Because  “EXPERT JUDGMENT” is very useful.

(3). I submitted application in anticipation that it will not require audit (normally majority aspirants follow same assumption)

LL – it is better for  aspirants to pre-plan actions for audit if it occurs on your application.

(4).  I suggest  -  Make sure of all latest and new updates by PMI - about terms, PMBOK version, exam pattern etc. before applying to exam. Every things available on pmi.org. Recently there are very important changes are coming up by PMI about PMBOK version, exam schedules and re-scheduling etc.Which will sure affect your PMP exam plan.

(5). I ignored Knowledge Center   of PMI website at starting.

LL I suggest  -  to be most use of Knowledge Center. You will get very important things like good reference books, more than 1500 practice questions etc in eread and reference column.

(6). I came across many free practice questions from different sources.

LL I recommend to practice MOST updated and reliable sources for practice test.

I have tried – Paid one - PMP FasTrack by RMC – good collection of about 1400 questions of different types of situational types, I have tried Paid One - http://www.pm-exam-simulator.com – very good for practice and helps you to improve speed in exams,

In addition I have tried Free tests - PM Study, Lahman, Head First, Ferndale’s, PMI practice test, Kim Heldman (very good situational ones but in exam you cannot find questions of this level – difficult ones), On Line tests from my R.E.P., Questions from RITA’s book etc. I have practiced about 5000 different questions.

(8). How was exam?

When I entered exam center, I was confident to pass exam.

LL – I observed that majority of questions are easy to understand. They are based on PMBOK straightway. I could no find single questions out of scope of PMBOK. But PMI often insists on situational questions. There were some good questions based on formula but easy to understand and answer correctly.

I strongly recommend understanding concepts of Projects processes and practicing more questions. Initially I have overlooked Data Flow Diagram – but  I strongly suggest to understand all Data Flow Diagram for all processes this will help you to solve most of questions.

Because it is based on fundamentals and concepts of Project Processes.

Make habit to look at to Data Flow Diagram more frequently and understand its magic!

(9). Last but not least – PMP exam is nothing compared to we studied in our degree courses but there is more RUMOUR spread in the market. The only important aspect is 72 seconds – time limit which may cause you to select incorrect answers!

I have never keep my goal just to pass exam rather to be a Good and perfect Project Management professional in real world!

So, keep all required arms and be prepared, victory will be yours!
