Hi All,

What is the passing percentage at PMP ?

I haven't yet come across any document which suggests so but have
heard that it is around 60 percent.

Is that correct?

Thanks.

Harsh

Harsh,

Before 2009 (approx) one need to score 61% to pass the PMP exam.

However, as of now PMI is not specifying how much one needs to score
to pass the PMP exam.

Now you may be wondering that how PMI decide & declare a pass or a
fail result.

I don’t know exactly, how PMI do this. However, I know that PMI
evaluate a test taker in five domains (i.e. five process groups) as
proficient / moderately proficient / below proficient. That means as
a test taker your performance is being evaluated against a pool of
thousand other past test takers for each domain.

As a industry standard, it is being stated that if a candidate
consistently score over 80% in a variety of available mock test in
his/her FIRST attempt then s/he good chances of passing the actual PMP
exam.

Hope this answers your question and anxieties and will help you to
focus more on PMBOK and PMIism.

Harsh,

Further to my previous email, the words used in the PMP result page
(issued at Prometric Centre after the exam), to help test taker in
understanding the result are as follows:

"Understanding Your Exam Results:

Your exam results are reported in two ways:

1. An overall pass/fail result score is generated based on the number
of questions you answered correctly.

2. The second level of results is the assignment of one of three
proficeincy levels to each domain.

Each domain is assigned one of three levels of proficiency-
Proficient, Moderately Proficent and Below Proficient - based on the
number of questions answered correctly within the domain.

This provides direction about where your strengths and weaknesses fall."

So, the result pass or fail depends on the number of questions
answered correctly. But there is no PMI-stated pass percentage (such
as 61%) any more.
