Hello everyone, this is Valentin from Romania. (By the way, anyone
else from this area around here ?)

Here's a question I found, could anyone provide the answer and a short
explanation ?

##############################
Using the chart, what is the lowest cost of crashing this project to
save four weeks ?

A. 18000 USD
B. 6000 USD
C. 7000 USD
D. 9000 USD

Chart can be found here:

Thank you very much,
Valentin

The Answer would be C (7000 USD)
Reason
If you crash activity A and E , you will earn
(10-8) +(9-7) = 4 weeks

and the budget to do so would be

(4000-6000) + (14000-19000) = - 7000
Which means one would have to spend 7000 USD more to crash this schedule

Does anyone else has a different answer????

Hope that helps,

Hello Valentin,

Good to see such a good example.
- We need to understand the importance of baseline. What ever might be the reason the team wants to compress the schedule. To compress the schedule we have 2 techniques. fast tracking and crashing. Crashing is done by adding additional resources. That means additional cost.

As per the requirements, we need to crash 4 weeks.
Look at the options over there. You can crash with task F alone. But the additional cost would be $18,000.
Take activities D and E - the additional cost will be $6000 but you can crash only 3 weeks.
Other options E+A=4 weeks $7000, E+C = 4 weeks = $9000.

Consider option A+C you can reduce the schedule by 4 weeks and can additional cost would be $6000 only.
This is the lowest possible option.

Thanks

The answer should be B ie 6000 USD

Crash activity A and C

ie

(10-8)+(14-12) =4 weeks

cost wise (4000-6000)+(22000-26000)
(-2000) + (-4000)= - 6000

So least cost to crash is 6000 USD.

If any body disagree please reply back

Thanks
