Applications Open: Japan Past & Present Project Funding (Spring 2026)

Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that Japan Past & Present is now accepting proposals for its Spring 2026 Project Funding cycle! The Yanai Initiative’s JPP Project Funding program offers short-term support to scholars to create public-facing resources on Japan-related topics (broadly defined) to be published on the JPP website.
Resources may include, but are not limited to, research and pedagogy guides, databases, video series, essays, lesson plans/syllabi, annotated translations, digital resources, or other innovative materials in support of open-access research and teaching. Funding of up to $10,000 may be used to cover the cost of research, writing, and content development by a group of 3-5 individuals for a period of 4 months, along with other mutually agreed-upon expenses. For this round of funding, we especially encourage applications on premodern topics.

While you are here, we hope scholars working in the Japanese humanities will take a moment to create a profile in Japan Scholar Search, which is a crucial element of JPP's efforts to make visible the global diversity of the Japanese humanities as a field, and to help scholars all around the world, at every stage in their careers, affiliated and independent, to share their knowledge, and create new knowledge together.
ジャパン・パスト＆プレゼント (JPP) はこの度、2026年春の募集サイクルとなるプロジェクト助成金への応募受付を開始しました。 JPPの「プロジェクト助成金」は、JPPのウェブサイトで公開することを目的とした、幅広い日本の人文科学研究についてのリソース開発を短期的に支援するためのものです。リソースとは研究・教育ガイド、データベース、動画シリーズ、エッセイ、授業計画・シラバス、注釈付き翻訳、デジタルリソース、その他革新的なプロジェクトなどが考えられます。助成金は最大1万ドルで、3～5人のグループによる研究、執筆、コンテンツ開発の費用、その他JPPと合意した費用に充当することができます。助成対象となる期間は4か月間です。今回、特に前近代（1600年以前）に関するプロジェクト応募を歓迎します。
