Apart from the delightful passage in The Tale of Genji, there are several intriguing references in Tsurezuregusa.
You could have a look at sections 110, 111, 188 and 193 (SNKBZ edition).

Best wishes,
Jos

I thank Jos Vos, whose splendid Het verhaal van Genji I always have close at hand. In my article on go in Japanese literature, I make mention of the references to the game in Tsurezuregusa, the views expressed by the author being rather ambivalent. (Condemnation of such amusements as a sinful waste of time goes back to Confucius. One can only imagine what the sage would say about computer games.)

In my previous message, I carelessly stated that Kanren (Kwanren)’s go opponent is Emperor Uda. While the priest has had a long association with him, the go player is his successor, Emperor Daigo.
