Dear colleagues,
Apologies for cross-posting. Please allow me to circulate a Call for Papers for the conference "World Genealogy: Knowledge, Kinship and Ancestors in Global and Historical Perspective" to be held in Hamburg, Germany, from June 1st to 3rd, 2026. The conference
is hosted by the World Genealogy research group (University of Hamburg, University of Bonn).
The conference aims to pave the way towards a comparative and connected study of genealogical cultures from around the world. We welcome submissions, which seek to understand genealogical cultures across the globe from ancient times to the present day,
ideally incorporating comparative perspectives. In addition to genealogies of “biological descent", we encourage approaches focusing on spiritual and cultural genealogies (religious master-disciple genealogies, genealogies transmitting knowledge of the performing
arts, artisanship etc.).
We invite scholars interested in presenting their research to send an abstract in English with no more than 400 words and a short CV to <
geneal...@uni-hamburg.de> until July 15, 2025.
Please find attached the original Call for Papers. For any questions, please do not hesitate to contact either me directly or the mail address outlined above.
Best regards,
Steffen Döll
