Hello everyone!

I am wondering: is there any place I would be able to obtain the volumes of Günther Wenck’s Japanische Phonetik? This book is like a Holy Grail of research: I am literally receiving responses of the ilk ‘this has been done in Wenck ages ago’ from reviewers and have no way to check the books!

According to my research, there is not a single copy in Russian libraries accessible to me, and it was also never digitized in any form. I am able to ship books internationally towards me, so both paying and receiving would not be a problem; the availability is. I missed a copy from Ebay that was a tad too expensive for me; now there is one offer online that is for Volume 1 of 4 only. Does any of the esteemed members here has any idea how would I find a way to obtain a copy? Alternatively, perhaps there is a scanned copy someone for private use?

Best wishes,

Alexander Zapryagaev

Dear Alexander,

Is this copy available?
My apologies if it's not actually available, or if it's the wrong book, but as this came up in my search for the book, I figured I would share:

Dear Travis,

I had contacted them before, and, sadly, the lot in reality contains only Volume 1 (of four). I might still purchase it, but from the point of historical linguistics research it is probably the least valuable of four. They do not have other volumes and have no way to trace them.

Best wishes,

Dear Alexander,

My apologies; I looked at the listing too quickly and forgot what you had already said about it being a multi-volume set.

It's a shame how hard to get some of these materials can be.

Wishing you the best of luck,
Travis

Dear Alexander,

If that's the case, Tohoku University has vols. 1, 3, and 4, and I believe you can request them via ILL services, if not for the original volumes then at least for the photocopies or scans. I think for this title, up to half of each volume can be requested as printed photocopies: https://www.library.tohoku.ac.jp/news/2020/copy/copymanual.pdf
In addition, it looks like Kyoto University has all four volumes according to CiNii Books.

If you only need to look at specific pages, please let me know. (I checked out the three volumes at Tohoku just in case.)

Best regards,
