The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at Northwestern University invites applications for a full time, senior appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor specializing in modern Japanese cultural studies (19th century to the present) with an anticipated start date of September 1, 2027. The area of specialization is open, though fields of expertise may include literary studies, film and media studies, and/or the study of visual and material culture. The successful candidate will teach four courses annually over the course of three academic quarters, advise undergraduate and graduate students, and contribute to a vibrant interdisciplinary community of scholars of Asian cultures at Northwestern.
