Dear List members,

We are happy to announce that the applications are now open for the International Noh Institute (INI) Intensive Program, celebrating its 40th year, September 14-27, 2026 in Kyoto.

Students and scholars, artists and those interested in gaining hands-on knowledge of Noh theatre are encouraged to apply to this two-week intense Noh training program.

2026 marks the 40th anniversary of the INI's founding and the 7th anniversary of its founder's passing. In continuity with the previous issues (find previous participants' reviews through our blog here), this year's program will provide group and one-on-one daily training in the chant and dance of Noh in the tradition of the Kongō school through the guidance of Master Udaka Tatsushige, Udaka Norishige and the instructors Diego Pellecchia (Kyoto Sangyo University) and Udaka Keiko (Noh mask carver).

Together with the intensive training in Noh scheduled during the two weeks, the program’s highlights include:

  • Performing in a final performance supported by professional actors.

  • Attend the rehearsal of a professional nō performance.

  • Discover the art of nō mask carving.

  • Attend the Seiran Nō performance.

  • Watch nō performances on traditional stages.

  • Visit nō-related historical locations.

The application period opens on May 15th and will close on June 15th 2026. Please make sure to apply by sending an email to ini.kyoto[at]gmail.com, attaching to the email your CV and a statement of interest of around 300 words. Before sending the application, make sure to check the official call on our website for more detailed information.

Please feel free to contact us beforehand through our website dedicated page and follow our activities through our Facebook and Instagram pages.

We look forward to seeing you in Kyoto this September!

On behalf of the INI Organizing Team
