Dear list,
on September 23, starting at 1:00 p.m., a hybrid workshop on our “local hero” Oka Masao will take place at the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW) in Vienna. Oka is not only considered a forefather of Japanese cultural anthropology, but also the founding professor of Austrian Japanese studies in 1939. The workshop will address the conflicting historical circumstances surrounding the founding of the institute shortly after Austria’s annexation by Nazi-Germany as well as Oka’s scientific legacy in Japan. For more information, please visit https://www.oeaw.ac.at/ikga/veranstaltungen/event-detail/oka-masao-a-missing-link-in-anthropological-and-folklore-studies
Looking forward to your participation, in person or online
