Betreff: Tenure-track position in Premodern Japanese Studies with a focus on Buddhism at the Austrian Academy of Sciences: please spread the news

Dear colleagues,

it is my great pleasure to inform you that the Austrian Academy of
Sciences offers a tenure-track position in premodern Japanese Studies
with a focus on Buddhism at the Institute for the Cultural and
Intellectual History of Asia in Vienna. The institute has strengths in
the study of South Asian and Tibetan Buddhism and is seeking to expand
them to East Asia through this position; candidates are also expected to
contribute to interdisciplinary -- comparative and/or transcultural --
research in the Cluster of Excellence "EurAsian Transformations".
Candidates should be a few years after completion of their PhD and have
completed at least one monograph (which may still be in the process of
publication at the time of applying). This is a research position, but
there are opportunities to teach and supervise students in the Cluster's
network including the Universities of Vienna and Innsbruck, and Central
European University (in Vienna).

For further details and to apply, please visit the Academy's job portal:

https://oeawnr.onlyfy.jobs/job/rb4ev257

Deadline for applications is 15 May 2026.

I would be grateful if you could spread the news to suitable applicants.

Please note that the scope of the position is defined fairly broad; we
are open to candidates with research questions in the history of
religion, cultural history, the history of philosophy and/or
intellectual history.

With best regards,

Birgit Kellner
