Dear colleagues,

Please see below for information on the annual Call for Applications for International Joint Research Projects with Research Funds through the International Joint Digital Archiving Center for Japanese Art and Culture (ARC-iJAC), at the Art Research Center, Ritsumeikan University.

Beginning this year, we are shifting focus to invite project proposals (applications for research funds) specifically from early career researchers. Eligible researchers include Master’s students, PhD students / PhD candidates, or those who completed a doctoral degree within the past five years. ARC-iJAC aims primarily (though not exclusively) to support projects which make use of the ARC's database system / online Research Space or other digital humanities resources, employing Digital Humanities approaches in the exploration of topics pertaining to Japanese arts and culture. A list of current and past supported projects can be found here: https://www.arc.ritsumei.ac.jp/e/ijac/theme2025.html.

International Joint Research Projects with Research Funds will be awarded a maximum of ¥300,000 (Japanese yen).
Application deadline is Mon Dec 15, 2026, 12noon JST.

Applications for International Joint Research without Research Funds are accepted on a rolling basis year-round, and are not limited to early career researchers. For this category, project leaders should in principle be researchers affiliated with a university or research institution (including museum, gallery, library, etc.).

Please feel free to reach out to me (sei...@fc.ritsumei.ac.jp) or the ARC-iJAC office (r-d...@st.ritsume.ac.jp) with any questions.
I look forward to talking with you, and to seeing your applications.

All my best,

Travis Seifman
