Colleagues,
Professor Yamamoto, The Tales of Ise expert who directed my translation of the Tales, will be accompanying me to Ireland and the U.K. this September. I will give two talks on the translation, one at Trinity College Dublin and one at the Chester Beatty Library on the 5th and 6th of September and another one in London at the Japan Society on the 8th. All events are open to the public and I hope PMJS members will kindly attend.
Professor Yamamoto would like to give a talk during his visit and would be willing to travel outside both of the cities mentioned or even consider other European countries. He has spent over 40 years studying the Tales and has an extraordinary and vast knowledge on the subject, all of which he carries remarkably lightly; he would prefer to lecture in Japanese, so his talk might be appropriate for graduate or undergraduate students of Japanese literature or culture. He has also just published a short book in reading the Tales through images, which is illustrated beautifully and images from that book would make a pleasant lecture for a general audience.
