Greetings, my name is Charles Dodge and I'm a researcher for a non-profit educational organization. I'm working on a paper for our organization's quarterly journal and i have one source that I'm having trouble finding an English translation or anyone who could translate it for me.

My paper is focused on Kuteuchi, medieval loop braiding and the booklet is titled Itokumi-zu written sometime late 19th century. High resolution images can be found at the NDL here,  http://dl.ndl.go.jp/info:ndljp/pid/2537014.

Thank you for your time and any assistance.

Dear Charles,
Masa Kinoshita used this manuscript and earlier documents on kuteuchi when she wrote Nihon kumihimo kogihō no kenkyū (Study of Archaeic Braiding Techniques in Japan). It has English captions to the extensive drawings and diagrams and an English summary. Depending on your purpose, this might be a good beginning.
木下雅子著『日本組紐古技法の研究』(京都書院、1994). The book is out of print, but it is probably in the Cornell University Library.
If you are interested in techniques, while Masa was still alive she had a home page   https://www.geocities.ws/lmbric/     and an study URL     https://loopbraider.com/lmbric-illustrated-instruction/

I hope this helps
Monica

Monica,

Thank you for the reply. I'm familiar with and have Masako's book. I was looking to translate the source material to verify and look for further insight.

I've since found a way to translate the source.

Charles
