Online symposium "Beyond the Southern Barbarians", February 2021

Dear list members,

in the attachment I am sending a first announcement for the online symposium "Beyond the Southern Barbarians: Repositioning Japan in the First Global Age". The event is jointly organized by Kyushu University and Yale University. We will have five event days spread out over three weeks in February.

Art and material culture will be in the focus but we hope to open up discussions that transcend disciplines, specializations, and especially national academic cultures.

The entire event will be equipped with simultaneous translation English-Japanese and Japanese English.

Information about registration, participation via Zoom, and other technicals will be sent in another email in January. 

The keynote and a number of presentations will be recorded and available for registered participants via the event website.
