Announcing the JapanKnowledge Workshop Series (9/29, 10/5; 10/21)

Dear colleagues,
We hope this email finds you well as libraries reopen and the fall semester begins.
In cooperation with NCC (North American Coordinating Council on Japanese Library Resources), Japanese Studies librarians from the PPA (Plains to Pacific Alliance), will host a series of online workshops on JapanKnowledge this fall. JapanKnowledge is a reference/e-book database that covers a wide variety of content and has been one of the most useful databases for Japanese Studies. Many university libraries in North America already subscribe. We are offering two workshops, an introductory session (which will be offered twice) for researchers who are new to JapanKnowledge, and an advanced session for those who want to learn more in-depth about database collections and their applications in scholarship. Please forward this invitation to your institution’s faculty and graduate students in Japanese Studies.
Introductory Session (English): Sep. 29th and Oct. 5th. 18:00-19:15 (EDT), 17:00-18:15 (CDT), 16:00-17:15 (MDT), 15:00-16:15 (PDT), & 12:00-13:15 (Hawaii)
This session covers fundamental search functions of JapanKnowledge and is strongly recommended to newly enrolled students and faculty members.Advanced Session (English & Japanese): Oct. 21st. 19:00-20:30 (EDT), 18:00-19:30 (CDT), 17:00-18:30 (MDT), 16:00-17:30 (PDT),13:00-14:30 (Hawaii), & 8:00-9:30 (Oct. 22 JST)
This session is recommended for those who would like to explore more of the database. This session uses breakout rooms featuring a variety of 10-20 minute presentations by publishers and JapanKnowledge users. Participants are encouraged to move freely from room to room to explore multiple sessions according to their research needs and interests.Publishers’ talk. Selected Japanese publishers will introduce their collections (the host will assist with communication as needed).

Researchers’ talk. Several scholars will share their research experiences with JK and talk about how it has changed and/or developed their research.
