On behalf of the Medieval Japanese Studies Institute, I am sending information about the commemorative lectures celebrating the award-winning book Mugai Nyodai. The lectures will be held in Tokyo and online.

We are pleased to inform you that Mugai Nyodai: Her Life and Legacy — Women and Buddhism in Medieval and Early Modern Japan (edited by the Medieval Japanese Studies Institute, published by Shibunkaku in March 2024) has been awarded the 40th Aoyama Nao Prize for Women’s History.
In connection with this award, there will be a presentation ceremony at Tokyo Women’s Christian University on Wednesday, January 14 followed by commemorative lectures by Monica Bethe and Harada Masatoshi. The lectures can be attended in-person but are also available online. If you wish to attend, you must register by January 9. Please see the attached flyer for details.
