Dear PMJS Members,

We are pleased to announce the call for entries and guidelines for the
11th Japan International Translation Competition.

[Submission Period]
May 1 (Fri) – May 31 (Sun), 2026 (JST)
Dates are subject to change.

[Target Languages and Source Texts]
Contemporary Literature Category
• Target Languages: English / French
• Source Text: “Kyoryu” by Takiguchi Yusho

Classical Literature Category
• Target Language: English
• Source Text: "Murasaki Shikibu" in Hyakunin Isshu Hitogatari by Ozaki
Masataka (edited by Furukawa Hisashi)


[Eligibility]
As the purpose of the competition is to foster the next generation of
professional literary translators, applicants who have published
book-length literary translations are not eligible.
However, translations published in magazines and/or anthologies are
permissible.
As an exception,in the Classical Literature Category,applicants with
experience translating and publishing modern or contemporary literature
are also eligible.

[Awards]
Winners in each category will receive a certificate, a trophy, and a
cash prize (Grand Prize: 1,000,000 yen; Second Prize: 250,000 yen).
