Perhaps some of you have encountered this, but I just discovered today the YouTube series called "Japanese History: The Textbook". It describes itself as  武勇伝   "Tales of Valor" . It begins in the Jōmon and thus far seems to go as far as Kamakura.

It uses Japanese middle and high school textbooks. I have dipped into Jōmon and Yayoi, and watched the Nara series. Nara Part 2 is quite accurate, although for some reason there is no mention of Hachiman! They describe the oracle from the Usa shrine, although it's identified as in Bizen, rather than Buzen.

At any rate, I understand that college kids these days have a shorter attention span than we had in our youth. This material might be just the thing to keep their attention.

Personally, I think it's quite good, although Full Disclosure I have no connection whatsoever to the site.

FROM THE SITE:

The first episode in a comprehensive pre-modern history of Japan based on Japanese-language educational materials. Today I introduce the premise of the series, and then move on to talk about Japan's Paleolithic period and its first named era, the Jomon period.
