Dear PMJS colleagues,

I’m happy to announce an online event called “Let's Discuss "Way of Life" from Gender Perspectives (ジェンダーの視点から「生き方」を語り合おう)” held on November 6, 10:00-12:00 in 2021, Japan time (Nov 5, 18:00-20:00 [PDT]/21:00-23:00 [EDT]). One of the leading scholars of early modern Japanese history, who organized the special exhibition “Gender in Japanese History (性差と日本史)” at the National Museum of Japanese History, will be a panelist.
This event has been organized by the I-URIC Frontier Colloquium members, whose objective is to promote transdisciplinary approaches across fields represented by the 4 institutes below.
4 institutes
- National Institutes for the Humanities
- National Institutes for Natural Sciences
- High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (高エネルギー加速器研究機構)
- Research Organization of Information and Systems

The Event Outline:
English:
"Gender" is a complex concept that is interpreted and understood differently depending on the academic field. In this online event, we first present a topic of conversation by two speakers. They will explain how the concept of "gender" transformed throughout history and explain multifaceted aspects of “gender.” Then we would like to discuss from a gender perspective the possibility of a "comfortable society" in which everyone can live in their own way, regardless of their field of expertise or whether they are facing immediate gender-related challenges.
By facing gender issues in the living and social environment that surrounds you and sharing them with others in this event, we hope that you will have an opportunity to raise issues based on your own standpoint, which could also lead to proposals for solving them. We are eager to discover new perspectives and questions based on discussions that transcend the boundaries of each participant.
(The main language used in this event is Japanese.)
Please see more details and register from the link below.
