Dear PMJS Members,

Happy New Year!

The Freer Research Center at the National Museum of Asian Art is delighted to announce the launch of the digital edition of Seto and Mino Ceramics by Louise Alison Cort, curator emerita for ceramics. Dating from the twelfth century to the nineteenth century, this group of Japanese ceramics forms the single largest cluster in our collections. The digital publication is based on Louise Cort’s 1992 catalogue, the first on the subject in English, and includes more recent acquisitions, high-resolution color photographs, and new archeological and art historical findings. It also links each object directly to the museum’s website for more information and images.

The goal of the digital version of Seto and Mino Ceramics is to offer deeper insight, richer visuals, and broader art historical and archeological context for this important group of Japanese ceramics. As part of the museum’s commitment to accessible scholarship, the digital edition is available free, open access, as a downloadable PDF from our website.

The new digital edition is available here: https://asia.si.edu/research/publications/seto-and-mino-ceramics-2026/.

All my best,

Sol Jung, PhD (she/her/hers)
