Dear colleagues,

The PMJS mailing list has continued to grow over the last several years, now reaching nearly 1,600 subscribers. The PMJS Steering Committee is therefore seeking 1-2 new mailing list moderators to serve during 2025-2026 (with an option to continue).

The Moderation Team of PMJS is responsible for day-to-day management of the mailing list, which involves reviewing and approving pending email messages, answering inquiries to the ModTeam email (mod...@pmjs.org), approving new members, and consulting on any potential violations of the Terms of Use that appear in submitted emails. Time commitment varies from a few minutes every couple of days to half an hour or so when the list is highly active. The Moderation Team may also recommend discussions related to moderation and list management to the PMJS Steering Committee.

In order to ensure that we continue to include a wide variety of voices and can represent scholars from across the globe, for the current open position(s), we hope to recruit scholars in Asia and/or Europe to guarantee timely reviews of PMJS emails regardless of the sender's location. The role of moderators is important in fostering active and inclusive conversations on PMJS and we encourage anyone interested to apply.

If you are interested in participating, please fill out the following form as soon as possible, with a final deadline of October 31.

We are very grateful to all of the Steering Committee and the Mod Team members who have worked to maintain PMJS and foster an active and inclusive community for those with an interest in premodern Japan.

Please direct any questions you may have to Paula R. Curtis (prcu...@g.ucla.edu) and Christina Laffin (Christin...@ubc.ca). See below for a list of current and past Mod Team participants.

All the best,

Paula
