So I do not know how much of the USA Navy budget goes to submarines versus surface ships in warfare, is it perhaps spit down the middle? 50% submarines and 50% surface fleet with aircraft carriers the most expensive, yet have become dinosaur antiques in a modern world where missiles and drones dominate the landscape.
We see this even in the Russia Ukraine invasion where surface ships of Russia in the Black Sea have been sunk by drones.
Time to scale back on carriers, perhaps have just 2 of them in total.
According to Wikipedia we have 233 active ships on duty and 11 of them are aircraft carriers, while 76 are destroyers, and only 14 ballistic missile submarines.
I say those numbers are lopsided due to world circumstances of missiles and drones.
Instead of 14 ballistic missile submarines we need double that number and pare away the carriers to just 2 or 3 and the smaller carrier, and pare away 76 destroyers to just 12 or 18 depending on the carriers being 2 or 3. In missile world, surface ships are just nice easy large targets.
But keep 2 or 3 carriers, the smaller ones for Show of Force.
