So in this year of 2026 we have the World Cup of Soccer being played in stifling heat in the USA, Mexico, Canada.

I would not be writing this if the World Cup was played in Autumn as the heat is on the wane, but no, smack dab in the middle of heat. I am thinking to myself, if I were a player, no way am I happy in going out in 35 Centigrade temperature in full charge.

Why is Sports so large in human society????? The answer must be more than just entertainment for spectator and joy and career for player.

My guess is, that psychologically, Sports is a Tribal Phenomenon. We evolved as a tribe in human evolution. And in modern times, that tribe is usually a entire country.

Sports is physical while academics is mental.

The two probably intercept each other. Meaning that the best physical state requires a good mental state and a good mental state requires a good operative physical state, if not much more than to have the mind warmed up, ready to think.

Question:: So, how much of Sports is what we can say is War in practice, without the bloodshed and violence??

A few nights ago, the NYC Knicks basketball team came from behind of 29 points and end up winning the game. Reminescent of say France and UK coming from behind in WW2 and end up winning.

And there are many gripes about Sports, such as you ask the teenager to hoe the vegetable garden for weeds, but instead is playing basketball instead. Or the people who ride on mowers and later run and jog for exercise, when they could be using a push mower and forego the run in the evening.

We have statistics and economic data all the time, but do we have figures on how much of human society spends in time on Sports?????

The news last night says that Inflation in the USA is now 4% year over year. Can we say that of all USA persons 4% of their time is spent on sports-- either engaged in sport or watching sport?

Distinguishing Sport from Exercise. This is likely not easy to distinguish sport from exercise. If we say that a Sport is a competition contest, and exercise not a competition than we have some clarity. But the exercise is likely to be training for the day of competition.

At this moment in time we have several wars going on around the world. We have Ukraine- Russia war, and we have Israel warring on its neighbors and we have USA warring with Iran. A few wars are active in Africa.

How much,  can we say that Sports is a training ground for future soldiers in war.
