Inferno is a Japanese pop rock song featured in the movie Promare. The song can be found in the official soundtrack for the film alongside a remix collection. Vocals were done by mpi & Benjamin while the instrumentals were composed by Hiroyuki Sawano[1][2].
On March 12th, 2020, a live performance was uploaded to Hiroyuki Sawano's official Youtube channel[3]. Furthermore, on January 18th, 2020, a live show named Live Inferno featured and referenced the song.
According to an interview with the website Natalie, Sawano wished for the vocals to have a stronger presence. Thus, he requested to have two singers instead of one. Benjamin and mpi were chosen specifically for their work on Kill la Kill. The duo collaborated on lyrics while Sawano focused on instrumentals. Sawano claims that he did not intend for the song to act as the movie's theme, making it as a sub theme instead. However, fellow staff members believed it to be so, with the themes encompassing the film's moreso than others, thus Inferno was decided as such[4].
The song's main focus is that of Galo's journey into becoming a firefighter and his heroic behavior. This is indicated by the singers referencing Galo's burning soul and various firefighter imagery. However, as the song acts as a duet and the words of "Trails of fire (...) lead me to you," this can be concluded to be referring to Lio with the song being about both parties.
