merci Jojoba,

Today, Yousef Sadeq Srour, also known as ‘Aqel’, was
killed by the Israeli army during a weekly non violent demonstration
in the village of Ni’lin.
</p>
<p>
Around 2 pm this afternoon, a 16 year old boy was also shot with
live ammunition, in the fields next the villages houses. Yousef was at
the scene and tried to carry the boy who was critically injured and on
the ground. When he picked him, the Israeli army shot Yousef in the
chest with a .22 bullet. He and the boy were both transferred to the
hospital, but it was too late for Yousef. The boy is currently in
critical condition.

After Friday prayers, the people began the weekly demonstration at Bil
‘in, in which a group of international, Palestinian and Israelis
from peace and anti-occupation movements gather to resist the building
of the wall around the village in order to regain land that was taken
in 2004. This Friday, demonstrators marched through the village
towards the wall waving Palestinian flags, chanting anti-Zionist
slogans demanding the cessation of the occupation and return of their
land, and refusing the Israeli racist policy against our People in the
occupied Palestine. The protesters commemorated the martyr Bassem Abu
Rahma and they were carrying metal shields, with his pictures, in
order to protect themselves and others from Israeli fire. They also
wear masks designed specially for Bassem, expressing his existence in
all the demonstrations, and they are all Bassem.

<strong>[The Guardian]</strong> Ramallah is tired. The feeling you get
walking around the streets here is that the Palestinians are weary of
the struggle against the incremental destruction of their homeland,
happening right now while the world looks the other way. You hear
things like, "Our struggle has been long and it has got us
nowhere". And people ask how the world can stand by while the
Israelis annex more land. It’s a good question.
</p>
<p>
In one village the flame of non-violent resistance still burns. Last
week, we went to the weekly demonstration against the annexation wall
in Bil’in, where it cuts deep into the farmland of this old
Palestinian village and the Green Line (the internationally recognised
border of Israel-Palestine). Since Israel started building the wall
here in 2005 (stealing about 60% of the village’s land) the
people of Bil’in have been inventively and non-violently
resisting.

<strong>[Palestine Monitor]</strong> Four years ago, construction
started on the Separation Wall through the middle Bil’in, a village
outside of Ramallah. They have lost about 60% of their land—
agricultural land where most of the income of the village was made.

<strong>[Adalah-NY]</strong> On the day before Mother’s Day, 40 New
York human rights advocates gathered at the Leviev jewelry store on
Madison Avenue and called on throngs of weekend Madison Avenue
shoppers to boycott Israeli diamond mogul Lev Leviev over his
companies’ construction of Israeli settlements on Palestinian land in
West Bank villages including Bil’in and Jayyous. Mother’s Day is one
of the biggest jewelry shopping periods in the US annually. The New
York protest came as controversy is growing in Norway over Norwegian
government investments in Leviev’s company Africa-Israel. The New York
protesters also commemorated Bassem Abu Rahma from Bil’in who was shot
to death by Israeli soldiers last month during a peaceful protest
against the construction on Bil’in’s land of Israel’s wall and of the
Mattityahu East settlement by a Leviev company.

Palestinian, Israeli, and international protesters walked through the
streets of Bil’in on Friday wearing surgical masks to protect

sixty-one years ago. It has caused the deaths of thousands of
Palestinians, injured hundreds of thousands and has put millions in
prisons, including Israeli prisons but also the prisons created by the

<strong>[Palestine Chronicle]</strong> Gaza has returned to its pre-
massacre state of siege, confronted with the usual, conspiratorial,
"international" indifference after 22 long days and dark
nights, during which its brave people were left alone to face one of
the strongest armies in the world — an army that has hundreds of
nuclear warheads, thousands of trigger-happy soldiers armed with
Merkava tanks, F-16s, Apache helicopters, naval gunships and
phosphorous bombs. Gaza now does not make news. It’s people die
slowly, its children malnourished, its water contaminated, its nights
dark, and yet it is deprived even of a word of sympathy from the likes
of Ban Ki Moon and the president of "Change; Yes We Can."

<strong>[Adalah-NY]</strong> The people of Jayyous were deeply
saddened to learn that the government of Norway has invested its
pension funds in Lev Leviev’s company Africa-Israel. Leviev is the co-
owner of Leader Management and Development, the company that is
building the Israeli settlement of Zufim on our village’s land.
According to media reports, Danya Cebus, a subsidiary of Leviev’s
company Africa-Israel, has also built Israeli settlements on Bil’in’s
land, as well as the settlements of Har Homa and Maale Adumim around
Jerusalem. Leviev is destroying the olive groves and farms that have
sustained Jayyous and other Palestinian villages for centuries,
profiting from human rights abuses and violating international law. We
call on the government and people of Norway to follow the lead of
UNICEF, Oxfam, and most recently the British government, and end
Norway’s relationship with Leviev’s companies due to their
construction of Israeli settlements.
