I am in the early days of studying for the CIPP/E. I just received a heads up that the WP29 Guidelines by the EDPB are worth looking at in addition to the IAPP textbook.

Are most in this study group focusing on the CIPP/US?

Hey there Budoka,
I think this group is mainly for CIPP/US, but I think a little EU discussion can't hurt.
Personally, I "only" have an LLM in EU privacy law (and preparing for CIPP/E), I would say the knowledge of GDPR is by far the most important part of the exam.
Knowing WP29 Guidelines in general (and it is quite a lot) won't add that much value.

I've found this reference earlier to a CIPP/E study group, perhaps we should try joining there as well. :)

Hi all,
For CIPP/E resources, I'd like to recommend https://privacystudygroup.com/ - we've just launched in the last few months but the site will be a place for privacy exam candidates to find all sorts of study resources and tips. We are working on a set of GDPR study posters at the moment which summarise key points of some of the main articles and come with a topic outline too. There are just a few on the site right now but we will be adding more as quickly as we can. These are all free of charge, as is membership to our CIPP/E study group on Facebook, a community of 800+ CIPP/E candidates and certified professionals. There is a wealth of information in there about how to prepare for the exam, particularly if you click on the 'Exam Experiences' topic. https://www.facebook.com/groups/cippestudygroup I hope this is useful and best of luck with your studies,
Maria

I am also studying for the CIPP/E as well. I think there were previously some discussions in this group regarding CIPP/E. Can anyone redirect us to those references?

kaszia...@gmail.com, Ábel Kaszián, Lucretia Lu,  do you have any interest in or think there is value to creating a sub-study group for CIPP/E? I am just thinking that maybe my questions posted here would sidetrack the rest of the group which seems to be primarily CIPP/US.

Yes, I think it would be great as well!
Also, I could share some info there which I've received from a related FB group. :)

Hi CIPP/E friends,

I just want to remind you to be careful not to post material here that is proprietary to another group or publisher. If the material is free to share it's totally welcome here.

Unfortunately I didn't outline when I took the CIPP/E (I made notecards for some but not all of the GDPR articles) so I have nothing tangible to contribute, but I'm happy to answer CIPP/E questions as much as I can.

Cheers,
Kim

Hi Kim,

sure, I think we understand that.
I've meant sharing tips about which question-compilations are worth buying and which EDBP guidelines are worth reading twice. :)

Can I join the CIPP/E study group?

I was going to do the CIPM, but it looks like the CIPP/E might be the better choice for now.

Awesome! Let me know what the plan is going forward. I live in the Palm Springs, California, area, and I am willing to meet via Zoom or anything like that.

Looking forward to working with everyone!

I think we can get more help in this group, it is quite active for CIPP/E preparation. :)

Kind regards,

Hey there CIPP/E fellows,

as there are people who are not on Facebook (can't say I blame them :), it would be the best to have a Google mailing list (a group) for CIPP/E as well.
I am going to create it and add the addresses of you who said that you would be interested.
Then we can cross-share experience with the FB Group as well.

Have a great day,

Abel

I'm sorry for the delay everyone. I am actually in Tokyo so there is a substantial time difference.

I created a subgroup here... https://groups.io/g/CIPPEStudyGroup

I am not affiliated with SCLU PLSO so was uncomfortable adding that to the title but I did put that information in the description. If the general consensus is to use Google instead that is fine just let me know.

Also if anyone would like to be a moderator let me know.

I just joined, but I am open to using either one. I’ll just follow the easiest route.

Hi Kim,

Do you have any suggestions, or does anyone else that already tested, for practice questions that are worthwhile? I see there is a book by Jasper Jacobs. And of course, the 25 IAPP practice questions but quite frankly isn't enough in my opinion.

I am the type of person that ideally likes to do tons of practice questions before sitting for an exam. But, it seems like most of what I see when researching leads to those scammy test dumpsites which probably do more harm than good.

Thanks

Unfortunately I'm a bit of an under-preparer (and was coming off a comparative privacy law class with its own written exam) so I didn't unearth a ton of resources. I think our friends at privacystudygroup.com have a practice test, but I'm not clear on the details there. There's also a second Jasper Jacobs book that focuses on just the scenario questions; I haven't used it so I don't know if there is overlap with his other CIPP/E book.

Hi all,

Happy, and relieved, to report that I passed the exam this morning.

It was definitely challenging but with proper preparation, it is doable by almost anyone. I was very nervous because I am not an attorney but as long as one has a firm grasp on the actual GDPR it is all good.

Good luck to everyone else and thank you for letting me participate in this group.

Hello,

CONGRATS!

Quick question, there have been changes in the privacy field (like the Privacy Shield being invalidated) and the text isn’t updated regarding that. Do you felt like that was an issue when studying and taking the test. I have been studying and just make little notes for myself when I run into things, like the fact that Brexit actually happened.

Thanks and congrats again!

I was actually concerned about that as well. I don't think that I will be in breach of the NDA in saying that in my "particular exam", generally speaking, Privacy Shield was not addressed at all. That would make sense since it is dead. But definitely have an understanding of the instruments for cross-border data transfers and the criteria for using them. As far as the other exam changes go, definitely spend some time looking at AI and the GDPR even though not addressed in the text.

Also, I wouldn't go too far down the Brexit rabbit hole since an adequacy decision was given to the UK by the Commission.
