Dear Ned,

I have a moderator with three ordinal categories (coded 1, 2 and 3).  How to do this using WarpPLS? Is dummy coding (like in OLS regression) still the right approach?

Thank you.

Normally, that would be the coding you’d use, assuming that it reflects an attribute reasonably well – e.g., high salary = 3, medium salary = 2, low salary = 1.

If you had a reliable equivalent measure on a ratio scale (e.g., salary in dollars), that would be better.

Yes, I agree that ratio scale, if available, is better than treating the variable as ordinal....  My question was how would warppls handle moderator with more than two level ordinal level (1=low, 2=moderate, 3 high).

Another question about the graph of the moderating effect. I notice that the default of WarpPLS is that the continuous moderator is cut into low and high. May I know the default cut-off? Can the user pre-specify the cut-off instead?

Yes, the H/L split is set for v. 3.0. But, as I mentioned to Paul, you can export the LV scores and create plots with them using other tools.

V. 4.0 of WarpPLS, which should be released soon in beta (the target is August, hopefully), will have many new graphs available – for both direct and moderating effects.

One of the new types of graphs in the forthcoming version, for moderating effects, is the 3D graph  illustrated at the top of the PLS Applications Symposium web site:
