Subject line says it all! I can't seem to get any output from Plover on this "New-to-me" laptop.

My Keyspan adapter doesn't have any drivers, so apparently I need another way to connect it to my writer.

Any ideas?

What protocol are you using/is supported by your writer? Does it say "connected" and is there anything in the paper tape?
And does output work for your MacBook's internal keyboard with the "Keyboard" protocol?

If you press Configure, and then go to the Machine tab, you should see an option called "Port" with something along the lines of "COM2" in it. (If it's not like that, don't worry! I've only used Plover actively on Linux and Windows so I don't know what it'd look like) There should be a Scan button below. If you press that with your writer plugged in, it should recognise it.

I have been using Plover with my ProCAT Flash for years now, so it should have been a matter of connecting my Flash to this new-to-me MacBook Pro, but the Keyspan adapter I have been using all these years appears to not have a new driver for MacOS 10.15 (Sequoia).

Plover shows as being connected, but nothing I stroke on my Flash does anything, and nothing appears when I have the Paper Tape showing.

I won't be much help here, sadly. I don't own a professional writer, I'm only a hobbyist. Feel free to ask in the Plover Discord, though. People are more active there.

I thought that I had found a solution for this problem, but it appears to only work when the Terminal app is open and visible.

Here is the (almost) solution:

Macs running Mac OS Venturra have no output to text programs finally has a solution: Open the “Terminal“ App, and paste this into it:

/Applications/Plover.app/Contents/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/Current/bin/python -m plover.scripts.main --gui qt

That's the problem!
Plover isn't launching using the QT GUI, but something else. (I use Linux, so I have the QT GUI by default, I'm not sure what the other GUI framework Plover uses. You'll have to work out how to force QT GUI to be used. It only works when your terminal because your terminal is running the program, so closing it stops the QT framework from being used. (I believe, I'm not a Mac user)

Good news! Looks like the problems have been fixed with build 4.0.rc5!

Thanks, Devs!
