Hi, everyone,

I have a Stenograph Wave student machine and I am planning to get a very light laptop for work use, so that I can stop lugging my heavy laptop around, in addition to that heavy Wave machine. Is anyone here using Windows Surface Pro or Surface Laptop with Plover and Wave machine successfully? I want to know for sure if the Surface would work with the steno machine and Plover before buying the laptop, but I am guessing the computer store is probably not gonna let me link up their test products with my steno machine "just to see if it works" (>_<)

Would appreciate it if anyone who has had no problems using this combination of laptop and steno machine can let me know! :) Thanks

I sometimes connect a tiny $99 Windows10 tablet running Plover to my Cybra - works fine (for about 2 hours, then the battery is drained).
I wonder if the Wave works with Plover at all - doesn't it have USB only, no more serial?

I have a Wave and I use it with Plover.

I am just looking at my settings.  It's connected using Stentura. I put my machine into Test mode to write, a habit I started with my Cybra. Not sure it's necessary. I have also downloaded the USB drivers from Stenograph for the Wave but again, not sure that was necessary.

Hi Rachael,

Mirabai, who started this whole Plover thing, has said she uses Plover on her Surface Pro without any issues. (You can search this group for messages containing "surface" for more info). It sounds like the important factor you want to look for is whether it can run Windows programs that aren't in the Windows App Store, since you won't find Plover available through there.

I'd recommend trying it out anyway before you purchase -- chances are the computer salesperson either a) wants to make the sale and would be happy to let you set things up in the store; or b) doesn't care about their job and would be happy to let you set things up in the store.

Good luck!
