Hello!

I'm having the same issue using Plover on my new laptop (a Lenovo running Windows 8) as I did with my old laptop (a Vaio running - god help me - Vista).

I download and run plover.exe, and the little box with the big red P appears. I can click on Plover and use it just fine. When I 'x' it out, the whole thing disappears. No P in the taskbar. No Plover in the list of programs under Control Panel.

Any thoughts on where it goes and why it doesn't want to stick around?

Cheers,
Amber

You mean when you press the X in the upper right hand corner? That's
the exit button. It closes Plover. If that's what you mean, it's
working as intended. If you press the _ button instead of the X
button, it should minimize. Sadly, we no longer support taskbar-only
running; just minimized and maximized. If I'm not understanding what
you mean, could you restate what's going on in different words?

I think what amber is saying is that she expected that plover would be
installed. That's a reasonable expectation because a lot of programs
behave this way. Plover doesn't do that yet. For now, you just launch
plover from the same exe every time. It will remember your settings so
it's not new each time.

Soon Plover will have an installer which will add the program to the
start menus.

Hi Mirabai and Hesky,

Thank you for your quick responses, and I apologize for my murky explanation.

Here's what I've done:

1. Download exe file and save to desktop
2. Click on exe file; Plover works beautifully; I can click on the P to turn it on and off
3. When I'm finished writing, 'X' out Plover
4. After that, when I click on the exe file saved to my desktop, nothing happens - nothing at all
5. Delete exe file
6. Go to Plover wiki; save exe file to desktop
7. Same pattern: I can use Plover once per download, but that's it.

If there's something I'm doing wrong or an easy fix, I would welcome your guidance. If this is mysterious, then no worries. I'll just keep using Plover in Ubuntu on my old lap top until the installable Windows version is released.

Cheers,
Amber

Hi!

Here's what I've done:

1. Download exe file and save to desktop
2. Click on exe file; Plover works beautifully; I can click on the P to turn it on and off
3. When I'm finished writing, 'X' out Plover
4. After that, when I click on the exe file saved to my desktop, nothing happens - nothing at all

Let's go deeper and check the "nothing."

Open the program called "Command Prompt" which is also accessible as "cmd."

A console window appears, type the following commands into it (plover.exe has to be in its place):

cd Desktop
plover.exe

If Plover does not start, an error message has to appear here. If it does, copy it here (right click on window, mark, select the text, right click, copy), and we can go from there.

By the way, you can also pin Plover to your taskbar. That alone, of course, won't solve the problem.

Cheers,
Rob
