Hi,
Me again. Still need help with setting this up. I have a Win10 Laptop and desktop. Fusion machine access to case catalyst and want to use Plover. So far i have not been able to get the Plugin Manager in Plover to update. Plover or case catalyst do not connect to the machine. I have downloaded all the updates that Stenograph says i need and Win10 is using the most up to date driver.
When updating Plugin manager Plover says it Failed to fetch list from PLPY
It also says it cant open the port for the steno machine.

Hello, I don't use your system, but I cannot update plugins using the
Plugins manager included in Plover, not sure why.

So I'm using a batch file (named installPlugin.bat). I placed this
batch file inside a folder containing an uncompressed folder with a
portable version of Plover, where the plover_console.exe file can be
used to install plugins without the plugin manager.
This worked for me:
Inside the batch file I put this line:

plover_console.exe -s plover_plugins install --upgrade pluginName

Of course replacing pluginName, in my case, by plover_spanish_mqd,
what is the system used by me.

Hope this helps.

I found that I was also having problems with the plugins manager being unable to update on my linux system where I use the appImage version. The error message was HTTPTooManyRequests.

There is a workaround in this bug report for plugins-manager: https://github.com/benoit-pierre/plover_plugins_manager/issues/12 -- I followed the instructions there and it now works.

Hi there,

There is a driver you will need for your machine, plus call this in PLOVER CONFIGURATION, Stenotype Machine: TX BOLT.  If you accidentally configure to "Stentura" the program will abend in an endless loop, so do not do that.  Your machine will work perfectly in TX BOLT format, but you have to test the PORT over and over again, until you find the right one to connect.

Here is the adaptor you will need from AMAZON:

UGREEN USB 2.0 to RS232 DB9 Serial Cable Male A Converter Adapter with PL2303 Chipset for Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista, XP, 2000, Linux and Mac OS X 10.6 and Above (10ft) ($14.95)

Here is the driver you will need:

or,

Your machine will operate as a TX BOLT in this configuration, and will work fine.

I have been using Plover and my Stenograph machine (Cybra) in the TX BOLT mode configuration for years without a problem.

Regarding building a Spanish dictionary, that is intriguing.  I am bilingual and often have had to insert Spanish words and phrases, by either fingerspelling or traditional keyboard.  Would LOVE to have a Spanish dictionary, but don't know where to begin.  I have several hundred thousands (well, over a million, but people find that hard to believe, grin) English entries and would love to have a job dictionary for Spanish (lived in PR for many years, and minored in Spanish, in college).

Hope this helps.

Hi there, you can call now or tomorrow (avoiding noon, California time and 3pm California time.)  I am up early, so calling at 7am California time is fine.

Still having trouble with the Plugin Manager update. I have looked at the fixes listed, however I am not a wiz at this and don't understand where I need to go to do the workarounds. Plover says it's connected to the machine as TX Bolt comport 3.

Hopefully we'll be able to push a Plover update soon to address this issue. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your patience.

Did get the plugin manager to work.
Got Plover to recognize the machine as a TX bolt. But there is no output to Plover. and CAse Catalyst does not connect to the machine.

Plover isn't meant to interact with CAT software. It is meant to allow you to use your writer to write into anything your computer's keyboard can type into .... so try opening WordPad, and stroke whatever equates to "It's alive ... *ALIVE!!!*" in your theory.

If I recall correctly, the Fusion can use either USB or serial. Unfortunately, I don't have a copy of the Fusion's manual handy, but if you have a Serial-USB adapter handy, you could skip the USB driver completely ... but you will have to have a driver for the adapter.

I was a big fan of the Keyspan adapter before Keyspan was acquired by TrippLite. I bought my first one back in 2005, and it still works -- though I did have to swap out a connecting cable a couple years back ... but if you have something else, try that and see if it works.

Don't forget to make the appropriate adjustments on the Fusion to make it use the serial port vice the USB port.

Hope that helps get you going!

I have a serial to USB cable with the proper drivers. I will try the straight USB connection.
Thank you so much
