Hello,
I tried to use Plover for Portuguese in Linux without much luck. Since Portuguese steno layout is currently only enabled in Plover 4 through Plugins Manager, does anybody know which Linux distributions are currently working with Plugins Manager in Plover 4?
I know it is working in Ubuntu 16.04, which, unfortunately for me, it is not very friendly with my Mac, since it show boot problems sooner or later.
So far I tried Linux Mint 19.01 and Ubuntu 18.04 with both crashing when I opened Plugins Manager. Even changing Gnome to Unity in Ubuntu 18.04 gave me the same results.
Just for curiosity, I tried Manjaro (can't remember which release) after reading some discussion in Plover Discord, and could confirm that it also doesn’t seam to be compatible yet with Portuguese steno. In Manjaro, the Plugins Manager did opened correctly and accepted Portuguese Layout add on, but the output showed the word I typed followed by many letters from Qwerty keyboard.

Hello Bernoit Pierre, thank you so much for answering.
I have a Macbook pro, retina from 2015 which I tried using ubuntu 18.04 installed on an external hard drive and now I am using an Intel Nuc Nuc8i3beh with ubuntu 18.04 installed in the internal SSD drive.
I guess I am doing something wrong, but with me, both of them had the same issue. After running Plover 4 from the appimage if I pressed the plugins manager icon, them plover crashed.
I thought there were already an opened topic about this issue in Ubuntu 18.04, because I had already brought this issue in a discussion in Discord, long time ago (in August 10 of 2018, in the software topic from Discord), you where really nice trying to help, but even then I kept waiting, because I was a bit shy for making same questions again.
Hello Tina
I'm using Plover for Portuguese, which I learned from a textbook (to type in English I generally use the conventional keyboard or spelling in Plover) . I am actually a bit slow considering the time I had already been training, but in my defense, I had only made consistent training in the beginning, until I could comfortably switch to Plover full time, instead of using the qwerty keyboard.
Generally speaking, that is all I do now, I use steno whenever I had to type something (in Portuguese, my native language), which goes for, lets say half an hour a day, since I don't spend much time typing.
And yes that was quite an adventure, and I always tell people, that - I am the first human ever to learn to stenotype in Portuguese from an open source project -
There where others that learned steno in Portuguese before me, and there is a established theory in here from Steno do Brasil, but the ones who learned before, did it using conventional training, or perhaps with a borrowed professional machine, but in Plover community there has never been a Brazilian or any Portuguese speaker before me, learning steno in Portuguese using Plover.
I had even written an essay about that process for the stenoboard blog, (which I was very proud at the time, to have that opportunity to show myself)

Hey Bernoit Pierre,
It is working just fine, I can’t believe it!!!!
Thank you so much, this is really important for me. Macbooks had become too expansive here in Brazil because of import taxes, so I decided to use Linux, since I don't imagine myself buying more macbooks in the future. So I was using Ubuntu to search in the web, and turned on my Mac whenever I needed to type something. Now I can switch completely and never feel afraid again to leave Mac os.
Thank you so much, that is really life changing for me!!!!
