Forwarding a message from the people who are housing makerbot 3 on the log page. Can someone loop in with him on the maintenance issue?

Hi Stevie,

Yes, you can email me or message me on Hangouts pretty much any time.  I keep my smartphone on me 24x7 as a requirement for my job.

The machine logs show that our Makerbot #3 is not operational, and the person that picked it up from Public Labs said something about it needing something to make it operational.  However, when we got it, it needed some adjustments but was otherwise working fine.  We are a pretty self-sufficient group that can perform maintenance or repair on just about anything.  We have put about 2 spools of PVC through it since we got it.  It has the dual extruder, but it is missing some of the pieces for one of them so we have been using it as a single extruder (the tube for the filament is missing - not sure what else).  I have printed a few things on it myself.  About the only thing I can think of is that it needs to have the kapton tape replaced soon.

I will let the others know about the maintenance log.  Is there a particular maintenance schedule or procedure you would like for us to follow?  I do not see anything like that on the links you provided.

Hi Rick,
Thanks for getting back to me. By loop in, I just meant a quick call. But email would work fine. The Public Lab organizers have been interested lately in finding out what people have been doing with the Makerbots. Several of them are concerned about making sure that they are getting regular maintenance. They are asking people to start keeping machine logs on this page: http://publiclab.org/wiki/makerbot-machine-logs for projects and maintenance (the one you have is listed as #3).
Also, just for communication, they were wondering if people who have Public Lab Makerbots could join them on their 3D discussion list (all the Public Lab discussion lists can be found on this page). So far, this has not been a very active list, so don't worry about it flooding your in box, but they want to be able to reach out to those who have the Makerbots if they need to - again mostly concerned with maintenance.

Let me know if this works for you. I'm around if you would like help figuring out the log page etc 603.273.7027

Hi Steve,

What does it mean to loop in with me?  Are you looking to visit, or talk?  If you are looking to visit, it may be best to wait until after Fat Tuesday.  Our Makerspace is downtown Mobile, and it is difficult to get to during the Mardi Gras season.

We usually have a Google Hangout business meeting on Thursday evenings.  I can send you an invite for the next one if you like.  That gets most of the officers involved, as well.

We have really been enjoying the 3D printer.  We have had quite a few people come in to see it and print some models.  It has also inspired the Mobile Public Library to purchase some 5th Gen Makerbot printers.

Hi Rick,
This is Stevie Lewis, Outreach Manager with Public Lab. I was hoping to loop in with you about the Public Lab 3D printer you have with you. Do you have time in the near future to check in with me? I'll be out of the office Monday and Tuesday, but am free today, tomorrow and next week.

Hi Rick
We mainly want you to keep the X axis idler on the left lubricated. If
you would edit the wiki page Stevie pointed to for your printer and
subscribe to the plotz-3d list then every thing should be fine.

Thanks
Dan

I just posted a summary of four important upgrades or maintenance procedures which can prevent failure of Public Lab's MakerBot printers.
