Another pretty good week albeit with some nasty surprises: the beach at West 172nd Street on the Hudson once again disappointing; Meadow Lake in Queens (there be dragon boaters there) maxing out; and Coney Island Creek, which many thought had a new lease on life after the repairs at the Beach Haven complex last fall, sadly back in the red.
Our all-sites table is here.
Individual site results are available on our map interface here.
Volunteer appeal:
Still need samplers for Red Hook, Sunset Park, and Coney Island Creek—let us know if you can help.
Weekly slide show:
Daniella Benedetti using a line and a liter bottle to sample at Pier 35/Jackon Street in Manhattan
Decanting the precious fluid
Daniella at her second site, Stuyvesant Cove, one of the few sandy beaches in Lower Manhattan
Thanks to Eymund Diegel for this rare shot of the CBLF (Circuit Board Liberation Front) in action on the Gowanus Canal, recovering discarded military e-waste…

…and transporting the waste to their new headquarters at 2nd Street (read about it in the writeup on New York City whales in Popular Science)
Jessica Joyner’s fab shot of a horseshoe crab at Calvert Vaux Park on Coney Island Creek, with water looking deceptively good (don’t be fooled!)
And finally this from Cody Hermann, who samples on Flushing Creek—an art show in Taiwan featuring popsicles made from 100 of the island’s most polluted water sources.
Let us know if any questions or if you want to unsubscribe--otherwise see you next week!
