Here is a partial list of possible iFarm attendees gleaned from here and there. At least the campers will probably be present at the potluck BBQ. What should we bring?
12 names below:
Ned Horning, Chris Fastie, VT, camping
Don Blair, Amherst, camping
Craig Versek, Providence, camping
Jeff Warren, Lia, Seth, Sommerville, camping
Matt Brockman, Amherst? , camping
Will Ward, Dover
Hunter King, Amherst?
Jake Wheeler, Boston?
Jiansheng Feng (maybe), Boston
Hi Folks!Looks like I'm going to be able to commandeer a friend's vehicle from Amherst on Saturday morning, so I might just head up directly. That said, if I get the vehicle on Friday, it'd be fun to carpool up with y'all from Boston. So: default is, see you up there, but perhaps will have additional wheels on Saturday morning. Will know tomorrow.
Looking forward! On Thu, May 16, 2013 at 10:32 AM, Jacob Wheeler <wheele...@gmail.com> wrote:
I would like to go and bring my dog if that's cool. I'll be driving Saturday morning from Roxbury. Room for 2 more in the car. Hi,
I just wanted to get a final count of who associated with the Pioneer Valley Open Science collective is planning on attending the iFarm gathering in Lee, NH this Sat. May 18th @ noon, graciously hosted by Dorn Cox. And who is planning on camping - I am. Hopefully this can count as a mass RSVP. Thanks,
- Craig

The theme will likely involve stuff you can do on a farm with Near InfraRed/VISible light cameras, Raspberry Pis, Arduinos, and such. Please read more about it below...

I have moved this to http://groups.google.com/group/plots-infrared, but Dorn (and others) should be added to the group.Ned, is May 18 better for you? It would be good to carpool from Ripton.
iFarm is just a nomination. It might not be sufficiently gritty for this event. How about calling it the Vetch Kvetch?
ChrisThread:--Thank for copying me. I think I could make it for Saturday the 25th but I'd need to be back that night. Otherwise the timing is good. In a few weeks I should be able to focus more on photo monitoring stuff and maybe finally start on my winter projects.

Can I reserve a campsite?
I copied Ned and Don, but maybe the thread can move to http://groups.google.com/group/plots-infrared

Hi Jeff, Chris, Liz, Stewart,
I would love to be a beta tester for the new setup, and I am sure we could help get some other beta testers lined up as well through Farm Hack and GreenStart.
It sounds like it would be good timing this spring. We could get some footage of the new camera setup in a farm setting as well and some farm images. there should be a lot of different crops growing and several fields and forests to try the equipment out on. It sounds like it might be great timing for the wired article too. Perhaps the FarmHack event could be focused on on-farm imaging rather than just aerial imaging, but we could get some cameras aloft as well. I think it would be really helpful to demonstrate the in-field application for agricultural decision making.
Any feedback on dates? Weekend of May 25th?

Dorn - i'd love to help get Public Lab folks involved in the May event. We are in the midst of a big project to make a much simpler, cheaper infrared/visible camera for plant analysis, and it'd line up nicely. We have a mailing list specifically for the infrared research if you'd like to join in: http://groups.google.com/group/plots-infrared
(on second thought, i'm CCing Chris Fastie, Liz Barry, and Stewart Long on this, as they'll be interested)
MakerFaire also sounds great. Maybe we can get Liz and the NYC public lab community involved. They're doing some urban ag stuff these days, i understand.
Chris F was raving about the FarmHack video, it looks amazing. We need to get our own finalized video together...
the wiki page on balloon mapping looks super too -- great and thorough attribution, good images. I'm hoping we can have a lot of crossover in our respective communities about that stuff, esp. as the infrared capabilities come together.
We're actually going to do another Kickstarter on the infrared camera in the next month or two; would you or anyone in your network be interested in being sort of "beta testers" for the cameras we make? We're hoping to do some case studies on potential uses, and sustainable farming is a huge one we're excited about. A lot of it may simply be ground-based photography, rather than aerial, but either is interesting.
Jeff
