PLOS Search API: searching with conjugation

Dear PLOS API developers,

Would you please guide the reference for the following search results 1) and 2)?

1) Searching with "customization" returns the results with:

-  no "customization" included

-  "customer(s)" or "customized" included

2)

- "numFound": 1071

https://api.plos.org/search?fl=id,abstract&start=1&rows=20&q=abstract:%22customization%22

- "numFound": 1034 - expected result

https://api.plos.org/search?fl=id,abstract&start=1&rows=20&q=abstract:%22customization%22%20-abstract:%22chain%22

- "numFound": 0

This is as expected, I believe. We are doing “stemming” with the Porter filter provided by solr. See
