Plop is a project I have been working on at Google full-time for the
past 8 months or so. It is being taken open source to encourage
outside participation, attract outside interest, and to allow it to
eventually develop into a generally useful computing environment and
machine learning system.
Realistically, plop won't begin taking over the world until it can do
useful things. I expect plop to be able to solve semi-interesting
machine-learning problems in the next few months (specifically Boolean
and numerical function learning, discrete and continuous optimization,
and timeseries prediction). For longer term plans, see the list of
benchmarks (http://code.google.com/p/plop/wiki/Benchmarks) and the
todo list (http://code.google.com/p/plop/wiki/ToDo).
If you are interested in contributing to plop, doing a plop-related
thesis or internship at Google, or have a question or feature request,
please let me know! I am also planning on updating the plop wiki
and/or committing to subversion every day or two, so stop by
http://code.google.com/p/plop/updates often, or subscribe to the RSS
feed at http://code.google.com/p/plop/updates .
Share and Enjoy,
