Hi everyone

The March monthly meet up is on Wednesday 6 March.

Would you like a formal meeting at Stellenbosch or an informal one at Buena Vista?

Thanks
Bridget

I don't have anything to present, so informal would be fine by me.

Idea: JC, It would be great to sit and chat about the logistics and costing around the sprint, especially since you're probably not going to be here for the next one ;)

I'm with Johan, a debrief could help us a lot for future sprints.

Can I propose a venue change to somewhere where I could actually eat the food?
Mike was also saying the other time that the food at BV doesn't really work for him.
How about Spier, last time I was there they had outdoor couches and things.. (that was at least a year+ ago though)
Other ideas? Could in Somerset-West, could be in Stellenbosch.. could be in Kalk Bay (hint hint :)

Maybe we can do a plot of where all the people that are attending live and then get a nice GPS median for the optimum location :)
although that could end up being the cape town film studios or something in its vicinity.. hmmm

If you'd like to change the venue that is absolutely fine, as long as the majority are happy with it.

Do we have any other suggestions?  Otherwise we can make it at Spier, either Moyo or the Spier Hotel Restaurant and Bar?

It doesn't have to be for all the future meetings.. but a change might be nice.
Let's see how the group responds.

I think because Rijk is coming, the optimum location would put us in the sea somewhere close to Baden Powell. :)

I think this is a good idea. As we hold more sprints and events, we
build up "institutional knowledge" and it only makes sense to share this
and thereby strengthen the community.

All I know of Spier is Moyo, and they're crazy expensive if you want to
eat (R500 a meal IIRC).

I'm slowly getting tired of BV's shitty service, so wouldn't mind a
change of venue.

I like their location on the R44 (in the middle of SW and Stellenbosch).
There are other restaurants there as well, we could try out a different
one. There is this Italian restaurant just up the road.

On the Stellenbosch side of BV:

La Masseria, 200m from BV: OK, maybe a bit expensive?
La Pineta, at the airport turnoff: Good option I think.
Jimmy the Fish/La Romantica at the petrol station at the top of the hill.

To the other side is 96 Winery Road, which is excellent, but more expensive and more for eating.
Places on the STB side of S/S West, maybe?

96 Winery is the kind of place you take your wife or girlfriend for an aniversary :-) Seriously good, but rather expensive.

I quite like John Dory's as well. Just across the Lord Charles, environment very similar to what you'd get at Jimmy the Fish, down to the fish tank with characters resembling Finding Nemo. Haven't been to La Pineta in ages... used to have a more stiff environment when I was there some years ago. Harbour Island also not bad, you can sit outside on the water, but that's in Gordon's bay... :-)

Sounds good. I've been to La Pineta a few times.. has well spaced outside tables as well.

That google map link is quite off, can it be updated to link to La Pineta directly?
When I do a maps.google search for La Pineta, Stellenbosch, South Africa it comes up correctly.
Thanks!

Thanks Bridget.

Should we perhaps drop the distinction between "formal" and "informal"
meetings?

Informal makes it sound like we have nothing to meet on. This is usually
not true, as this meeting for example serves as a debrief on the sprint.

I spoke to someone at a python hackathon in January and he mentioned
exactly that, that we don't seem to have "proper" reasons to meet. He
seemed to infer that directly from the word "informal".

It can just be a meetup.
Meetup at La Pineta on the R44
With the specifics of the agenda (if any) listed in the meetup description, like we have for this month.

OK, this gives me a gap:

My wife has a regular meeting on the first Wednesday of each month as well, which makes it logistically difficult sometimes. The coming meetup is OK, but I'd like to know: Could those of us going regularly chat about moving the regular date?

I can make both weeks (this and next) but prefer this one as I'm Stellenbosch area this week more frequently.
Once a month Tuesday/Wednesdays/Thursdays etc don't really make a difference in my life.
If we do formally move it to another day of the week, we should just make sure all regular attendees are in agreement.
