Plone and Pyramid usergroup meeting - August

Hi everyone

The next meeting is taking place on Wednesday 7 August!

We need to decide the location - we have had a meeting in Somerset West, Cape Town, Stellenbosch and Kalk Bay. Is the plan to keep rotating through this list? If yes, that makes the next meeting in Somerset West, and if you liked the Old Bridge Tavern I suggest keeping it there.

Hello all,

So the feedback from Mark at the Open Innovation Studio is that there is a clash on the 7th.

If we wanted to have the meetup on Tuesday 6th or Thursday 8th it would be fine.
From my side - Thursday 8th is the Deftones concert and as far as I know both me and JC are going. That leaves Tuesday 6th as a viable option?

I would like to get your feedback if you (all those who are planning to be there), if would prefer to keep the meetup on the 7th somewhere or have it on Tuesday 6th 7pm at the OIS?

Hi all

I missed the previous meeting so I wasn't part of the discussion where
the decision was made to approach Mark with regards to OIS.

So, I'm not sure what the reasons were for choosing OIS. I'd appreciate
it if someone could outline these to me.

There were no reasons other then we (all that were at the last meetup) thought it would be cool to meetup there again, and it is a nice venue and he hadn't been there in a long time.

I think we should keep it on the Wednesday, in Somerset West, and then

I'm fine either way. Somerset West is closer for me, but that's not a huge consideration.

Anyone got anything to show?

That's a good question actually. If someone wants to make a
presentation, OIS is definitely a better venue.

Otherwise I'd also prefer sticking to the rotation (i.e. Old Bridge
Tavern).

I might have something to present on but I need to research it first, Roche just gave me an idea this morning.
I will let the group know after the weekend if I end up with something concrete on my hands.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone.

As far as I know, the OIS is now used most Wednesday evenings, so if you do want to use it as a venue in future, these meetings might have to be on a Tuesday / Thursday for that month.  

So, for the August meeting, Witek, if you do present, is it likely to be better suited to the OIS? In which case it might have to be Tuesday 6 August instead. Otherwise if the presentation can be done in a pub setting let's make it Somerset West at the Old Tavern on Wednesday 7 August.

Sorry but I'm -1 on having the meetings on Tuesdays.
I already have a class every Tuesday evening.

I'm however willing to make a one-time sacrifice if Witek has something
he'd like to present.

I think if I present then the OIS would probably be better. Can we wait till Monday/Tuesday to announce the meetup location?
I also have to move at the end of this month, so I don't know how much time I will get to prepare something.. will know after the weekend where I stand.

Hello all,

I get an overall sense that the group mind is reluctant to move the Meetup from Wednesday -> Tuesday (even this once) and to move away from the CT, SW, S rotation.
so in light of this, I propose we stick with a Wednesday in Somerset West for August.

I have not been to the Old Tavern so I do not know how suitable it is to presenting something? Can anyone who has been there, chip in here and comment on its 'suitability' ?

I should have something to show and maybe even to present come next week, but I spent most my weekend doing work (we have a deadline for Tuesday) so I don't know how long nor how formal it will be. I want to talk and show the work that the Plone UI team is currently doing towards modernizing development with (hopefully) Plone 5.

If you're going to present, we should go to OIS (or alternatively

I'm quite curious about the mockup/plone-5 stuff that's been happening
lately, so I'd be happy if you decide to give a talk on it.

So, if the talk is happening, I'm +1 OIS.

I've checked in with Steve Kroon about using the room at Stellenbosch that you have used in the past, and he said it shouldn't be a problem to use it next week Wednesday 7 August. Please let me know if you'd like me to confirm this with him? I think you need to bring your own projector, if memory serves me correct.

Yes, I think that is a good solution, that way we get to keep it on a Wednesday, which I think suits most people the best. We will try to organise a projector, and if not, I will just demo on my laptop screen. Thank you for the effort on your part!

There is a projector - that's the room in IT building we used last time.

Witek - please confirm what your talk will be on?

Who used to collect the access card to the room (it's the (new!) Computer Science Committee Room)? Someone needs to collect it from the secretary during the day on Wednesday, and then slide it under her door / Steve Kroon's door afterwards.

Thanks Rudi, I think a backup is a good idea. My laptop only has a HDMI slot though, so there is a possibility I will also need a SVGA->HDMI converter depending on what connector the projector uses. Anybody has one lying around somewhere that they can bring along?

My talk will be on - "Plone Mockup - modernising Plone front-end development (A demonstration of the latest work of the Plone UI team)"
