Hi all,

I'm all for having a group that represents the women in Plone, but I'm
a little concerned about calling ourselves PloneChix. In my opinion,
it's not serious enough. If my mother (who is a technologist) wouldn't
feel comfortable calling herself a Plone Chick, I think it's
indicative that we need to approach this a little more formally.

Maybe we should look at branding ourselves as the Women of Plone
instead?

Thoughts?

2 cents:

I personally like plonechix because it fits in with the meme of two other groups that I really respect - linuxchix and devchix. if you haven't checked them out, I highly recommend it (and they are very serious/kickass too).

not that we have to keep the name, but plone is serious enough - its a stinky vibe that litters the docs and mailing lists. imho, there is nothing wrong with being a little lighter.

btw - I've heard a lot about you and glad to see you on the list!

Hmm I initially felt the same as Veda about 'Chix' being kind of.. not empowering, old time-y. Didn't want to rock the boat though, and it didn't bother me too much.

I can see what you mean though as it's been popularized and backed up by the credibility of DevChix and LinuxChix. Kind of a reclamation of the word...

Also, I don't have any clever suggestions off the top of my head so.. hooray PloneChix? :)

If it's standard across the industry, fine by me. Just don't call us
