How cool is this: http://sfrubyworkshops.com/

Anybody interested in putting something together like this for Plone?
Where are we geographically? I am in san diego, san fran a lot. It
would be great not just to have women teaching, but if we could get
some of the guys who want to help that would be sweet. I'm sure we
could find donated space - what we really need is time.

Not only would something like this be a contribution to women in
plone, but also to the plone community in general.

Thoughts?

Oohh that is pretty awesome. I live in Davis and am moving to SF later this year. I think it's a grand idea and would be down to help teach on styling Plone!

We could come up with a couple potential subjects to teach on. Would we gear this towards people who've never seen Plone before, people who've been using Plone but need tips, or for all-levels..?

If we do something in the Bay, I know a couple folks who might be interested in taking the class. Secondly if Joel's in town, I think he might be interested in the project, too, and he's such a good teacher! :)

Maybe workshops in different cities though, too? I wouldn't say no to an excuse to travel, and it'd be cool to actually meet some of y'all. :D

Awesome. I would just be careful with joel since he makes his living doing this stuff - I don't want to tread on his territory. the bay area is just an easy starting spot to target - what kind of stuff do your friends want to know?

AND anytime you want to come to san diego for whatever reason you are more than welcome to look me up/couch surf/whatever :) (that goes for everyone!). If you want to do a workshop even better!

Right-o, good point! Maybe we could try him further down the line then if we do multiple workshops, and could fundraise enough for an honorarium or something...

In the meantime, I've mostly heard people interested in learning the very basics (how to install Plone and set up a basic website) and asking how to skin Plone.

Personally, I'd want to learn about how to teach your clients to use Plone and set up an effective workflow to match, and also how to increase performance/speed on Plone. Plus maybe something on what add-on products y'all use and recommend. :)

Sorry to respond so late to this - it got lost in the queue of mail. Trish - is there any way you can put together an interest list for this? If we can get, say 5 people to commit, we could always go to a coworking space for a day for just about nothing (or nothing, if we can get them to sponsor it). Should be easy in sf, sd, not sure about other places.

Good idea, I'll send an email around to some web folks in the Bay and see if anyone would be down. =)

hm so i've only heard back from two people so far who'd def be into a plone workshop and live in the bay:

milan phan — milan...@gmail.com
mei chen — he...@hellomei.com

and here's what one of them requested:
As for Plone — I'd be interested in a free workshop for sure, and something medium-level that's above basic intro. I'd be interested in seeing all the capabilities, and learning my way around the tool itself.

i'll wait to see if anyone else responds though and will ask around s'more, too. :)

I'll get a google form together so we can get this in a cohesive place. I propose we say once we have a minimum of... 5-10?... people then we'll coordinate and get it together.  Make sense?

I put together a form so we can start gathering information about who may be interested. ruby workshops have the rule - you must be a girl or be accompnied by a girl - do we all agree to that?
