Funding

Hey guys -

If we sell all our tshirts, we are making $5 on each tshirt for this first order, and $7 on each for each subsequent order because we aren't paying designer fees. I think we should use this as a way to raise money for us to do something for the community. Pitch in for a sxsw booth for example or to provide materials when we get our shiz together and do a plone tutorial.

Additionally, if we are selling shirts for a cause people are much more likely to buy. We want them to wear them so we can 1) spread the word on plonechix, 2) spread the word on plone, and 3) have money to do cool things for the community.

Thoughts or ideas on what we want to do with anything we recoup (assuming they recoup of course - I'm in the mega whole right now)? I'm waiting for the details on the sxsw booth but so far thats what I propose.

Here's a thought: why don't we use the funding to go towards an event.
Either "host" a plonechix sponsored sprint with a topic of our choice
or sponsor a female sprinter and send her to one of the big upcoming
sprints.

both of those are pretty costly items, especially knowing that Liz
needs to recoup the money she fronted (which I cannot thank her enough
for doing!). But, this would be a great way to get our group out there
and show that we are visibly and actively contributing back.

I think sending a sprinter to an already organized sprint probably has
the least amount of planning variables on our end. We'd need to find
someone to meet our criteria, whatever they may be.

It would be great if we could do something like this hand in hand with the foundation. The PSF focused on giving money to women to go to pycon this year and it worked fabulously. If we could work with the Plone Foundation to do something like that for Plone it would be sweet. Even if has to be a fundraiser type thing (vs a magical gift from Google pockets thing). Maybe the conditional is that they stay for the sprints?
