is it planned to have plonesocial.contacts.app list show presence info?

Hi

Some great ideas here. Just a quick question. I'm quite interested in
showing presence information in Plone, ie an indication if a user is
logged into the portal and active etc. Is it planned to include this
type of information in the plonesocial.contacts.app listing?

Thanks

I’d like to see a contact list that has only the basic information in it but made it very easy for other packages to add more information and functionality.

For instance a plonesocial.contacts.im that read the contacts information, and showed a portlet of whose online would be a great addition.

I think what is planned and not depends on who wants to work on it ;-)
I know that the OpenSocial people are discussing presence at the moment and so do the Second Life people regarding the Open Grid Protocol. Maybe we can learn or even reuse some of their stuff.
Of course it would be nice to have something like this on top of the existing packages (as Dylan said) to see who's online (I wouldn't think only if IM here btw but also of being active in the plone site (once there was such a package for Plone which allowed this, forgot it's name and doubt that it still works. Seemed also to be some sort of hack) or even active in some other site. But for this of course we once again need some standard and this is also one topic the DataPortability group wants to work on.

What would always help though is to write down use cases or usage example/scenarios in the wiki so people might jump into it, expand it and maybe even implement it.

Hi

Agree with everything said here. Just a head ups..Wichert Ackkerman
has developed this package which could possibly be used within
plonesocial.contacts.app? A comment from him on another thread. As he
says it doesn't work with ZEO at the moment which rules it out for
larger sites and intranets. Guess that could be fixed though.

ps I think the difference between 'active' and 'logged in' is very important, especially for large intranet sites using auto logon for users. Google does this well with its gmail IM.

The new facebook presence and IM is very nice too.

Plonesocial.connections combined with collective.portlet.usertrack or other presence info would be cool. Certainly another future direction. Add it as a separate component to the component model.

So speaking of planning.

Lets get this puppy moving J

Getting a skype discussion going is nice but everyone’s schedules seem to be busy. Plus the changes of you EU people picking a time that suits us in AU is pretty remote J

I think we’re converging on some names and the set of functionality. So who wants to do what?
