hi all,

for the last ploneconference, we created some t-shirts: "plone is cool" on the front, some lines of code on the back.
if someone is interested in, we are thinking about sharing the files, so that you can customize them with your own logo or whatever you want.

we'd like to use a creative common license and to put them somewhere.
irene, which did the work would like to know:
 - which format is better for you? we used adobe illustrator cs4, so any previous version can be extracted
 - we have a unique big file with all the parts inside, is it better to have separated files (we have five differente chunks of code)?

what do you think?

It would be super awesome if we had a plone.org merchandise page....

We could sell extra conference shirts, stickers, quick ref cards,
whatever else we come up with. A ton of open source projects have
them. Usually they go through zazzle or cafe press to make
distribution easier.
All profits could go to the foundation- not that it would be a huge
amount of money. You guys see how fast awesome schwag goes at events.
I know I'd purchase a couple of Plone t-shirts, especially if they had
women's styles.
Plus, there's no better way to get someone to ask you about Plone when
you're wearing a t-shirt with some crazy dots on it and they want to
know what it means.

If we ever have to rename Plone I vote for CrazyDots :)

+1 for merchandise store.

I just dug through my Gmail to find an email from 11/3/2006 from Jonah Bossewitch about a Cafepress store he made to sell Plone merchandise: http://www.cafepress.com/ploneshop

Obviously, we'd need to update these items to use the new logo, but might this be a good starting point?

I'd just like to make sure everyone knows that ANY merchandise done
using the Plone logo needs to be done in accordance with our logo
guidelines, regardless of whether they go through a third party like
Cafepress.

These guidelines can be found here:

Hi,

as I said, we're going to share the file for printing the t-shirt we ware at the ploneconf:

Nate,

Personally, I think these t-shirts would work well as prizes, but seem a
bit weak as a marketing message for Plone, when standing/sitting in a
booth next to more professional/commercial vendors such as Microsoft,
Oracle and OpenText. Instead of Plone coming off as a 'hacker-based
volunteer project', I'm hoping it has more of a professional brand/feel
to those we run into at Gilbane.

At an NTEN conference, where I think things are going to be a bit less
corporate and stuffy than Gilbane, but also where IT is a bit more
open-source-oriented, I think it would be fine to wear the t-shirts at
booths, but at Gilbane, I just think we need a bit more
professional/corporate image at the booths, unless your going for the
'something different/hip/cool' angle, but I don't think that plays as
well to the corporate IT folks.

I think the attendees of Gilbane are more in the 'Enterprise with a big
E' market, and if Plone seems like just a 'cool' tool/project, that
isn't going to help it gain adopters and market share away from those
considering RedDot, Vignette, Sharepoint, etc.

Just my two (if redundant) cents.

That said, I'd love to have some to give away in drawings/give-aways to
people who drop off their business cards or who stay awhile to have
serious conversations, etc.

Massimo,

You can see who is at this mostly commercially-dominated CMS conference
that has been held for the past 7-8 years here:
http://gilbaneboston.com/exhibitors_sponsors.html

I think you'd be right in thinking that the typical vendor will either
be wearing branded polo or oxford shirts or will be business casual,
possibly with a jacket on (say, for the SEO experts trying to market
their services.) Since it's in Boston in December, I suspect long
sleeves could overcome polos on this one :)

I personally don't know the two conferences you're talking about, but for sure this kind of t-shirt has been thought as a joke/funny thing to be used in a very plone-centric environment.
So it can be used in a easy-env.

So, for sure, to the bigE-guys it would appear out of context.

btw, what do you think to, when you say "more enterprise"?
I had some IBMLotus or MS t-shirts and polo and they were very simple (one color - white, yellow, black) with a little logo in the front-upper-left.
Looked better if it was done with coloured wires (don't know how to say in english: probably the word is needlework) and not just printed.

Ken and Scott - do you think we should get some of these t-shirts
printed out for Gilbane to hand out as prizes?
http://www.redturtle.it/solutions/ploneshirt/plone-t-shirt-with-creative-commons-license/view?set_language=en

We can also be wearing them so that as people come to the booth, they
can clearly identify who can answer their questions about Plone.

I remember at the NTEN conference, people would come up and it wasn't
clear who was a Plone person and who wasn't, so they would kind of
lurk in the wings.

Another thought on t-shirts (first of all, I'm not sure if we can have
them printed and ready for conference in time, but if we can...):

Give one away per hour to the first person each hour on the hour, who is
at the conference and who Tweets about Plone and uses some special hashtag.
