Hi, I'm just curious if the Plivo Cloud API offerings will ever match up to the Plivo Framework API offerings?

I may be a little bit confused, but from what I've gathered...the API that is part of Plivo Cloud only offers the following endpoints: http://plivo.com/docs/

While the hosted version of Plivo offers the following: http://docs.plivo.org/docs/restapis/

Will the two ever be in sync? I'm looking at deploying Plivo Framework for the time being mainly because of some of the additional functionality it provides.

Would love to know if there's a chance that will change over time.

My apologies if I'm way off base here, I'm just learning my way around.

Cheers!

Hey Conrad

I posted a similar question about a week ago ( https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!topic/plivo-users/AVFyvPfFO-w ) but didn't really get a definitive answer from Mike.

We're using Plivo on a proof of concept for a client, and we're hopeful that we'll be using the Plivo open source framework should the client decide to go ahead and develop the idea.

It's not in our client's business model to use a cloud solution like Twilio or Plivo Cloud at the moment, which is why the Plivo open source framework seems like a great solution for us provided it's going to continue to be a sustainable/maintained open source solution.

It's kind of surprising to me that there seems to be so little activity on this forum because Twilio seems to be so popular and Plivo seems to give many of the same features for FreeSWITCH which is according to some the better VoIP platform (compared to Asterisk).  And you can either use a cloud solution or host yourself which is just awesome.

I've been really impressed with how easy it is to get up and running with Plivo/FreeSWITCH so I really hope Plivo is successful.
To that end, I'm learning Python at the moment so I can hopefully be in position to understand how Plivo works and start contributing to the open source project myself.

I think Plivo are going to be at ClueCon next week (the FreeSWITCH open source VoIP conference), so I'm hoping that will kickstart interest in Plivo.

Cheers
Martin

Plivo Cloud is all the backend stuff you would need to host Plivo is a
very scalable way.

As far is the API changes, you dont get user provisioning, number
provisioning etc. in the open source version, but everything else is the
same.

The core is the same on both products.

The cloud offering really lets developers focus on the apps, and not the
necessary backend telecom stuff necessary to handle thousands of calls.

By the way he open source version can handle high volume as well, but
you have to know how to set it up.

Hope that helps.

Martin,

Nice to hear stuff about Plivo Framework. Would love to have more contributors to the open source project.

Apparently I jumped the gun a little bit. After posting this message I ended up hearing from a couple of the Plivo developers as well as Venky.

They informed me that the Cloud offering and the Framework offering are actually pretty much the same, with the Cloud offering a little bit more functionality. I was initially confused by the differing formats of the documentation which gave me the impression that the Framework had more functionality...I was able to eventually figure it all out.

I'm definitely intrigued by Plivo and have been playing with it in more depth...I'll be sure to share my experiences and help where I can.

Thanks a bunch to everyone for your help!

It seems plivo cloud do not support SIP outbound endpoints:

-------------------
Luis:
we are interested in using our asterisk server as a outbound trunk.
how we configure to make calls using our server?
rakesh:
currently, we support adding incoming carriers. outbound carrier feature would be added to the web dashboard soon
--------------------

Any ideas of when this will be available?

Thanks,
Luis

If there's any other .Net developers on here I've done some work adapting the Plivo Cloud API helpers to work with Plivo Framework. Let me know if you're interested and I'll clean it up and put it on Github.
