Hi Steven

We're pleased to announce the next geek night will be an An Introduction to
FluidDB - a social database in the cloud, with Nicholas Tollervey.

Over the past ten years there has been a growing movement (NOSQL) examining
alternatives to using traditional relational databases.  A quick scan of
Wikipedia reveals a list of at least thirty such database systems, including
offerings by Google and Amazon, and, of course, Fluid Db.

FluidDB is a single web of things providing a writable social object to represent
each object. Using a flexible underlying representation of information, it allows
users and applications to work with information without constraint. That includes
dynamically organizing, sharing, combining and augmenting information, and
searching in ways that have previously not been possible. It also allows users
to choose exactly which information to share with whom, with separate controls
for reading and writing.

This presentation will introduce the simple concepts behind FluidDB, explain how
to use the API and include practical demonstrations of applications built upon
FluidDB.

Nicholas Tollervey is a classically trained musician, philosophy graduate, teacher,
writer and software developer who currently works for Fluidinfo, the creators
of FluidDB.

If you're planning on coming you need to register as the University
needs a list of names for the door; you can find full details and
registration on the site at
